Eliminate Distractions When Possible
Remove unnecessary materials from desk and visual distractions in the classroom.
Time Management
Do activities in short intervals with many breaks in between to allow time for processing, reflection, and review
Provide extra time to complete assignments and homework
Alert students with several reminders before moving from one activity to the next
Give alternative assignments with examples of the end goal and what you expect from their work
Provide verbal, written, and visual instruction whenever possible
Give incentives for completing tasks
Sequence all the steps in any given task
Limit excessive concepts, or themes at the same time
Avoid timed tests; allow as much time as needed to complete tests
Exempt students from district-wide testing
Permit tests to be retaken
Allow for frequent breaks to be taken during tests
Develop a code for good and bad behavior and refer to it frequently if necessary
Give immediate reinforcers, both positive and negative
Develop a behavioral intervention plan
Avoid making rules that may discriminate
