Information stored in our STM fades quickly
D u r a t i o n
Duration is the amount of time your memory can store information before it is forgotten -
STM - 18 seconds without rehearsal
LTM - up to a lifetime
--- F i n d i n g s ---
The longer the time intervals the less likely the participant will be able to recall the information
--- C o n c l u s i o n ---
Only 10% could recall after 18 seconds and 80% could remember after 3 seconds

Your MSM is a model of memory which shows the 3 memory stores (sensory store, STM and LTM) and how memory is stored in them

Once a red light came on the participant had to repeat the trigram again
The next trial began 15 seconds later and the participants responses were recorded
each participant was tested 8 times at recall intervals of 3 seconds, 6 seconds, 9 seconds, 12 seconds, 15 seconds and 18 seconds
--- F i n d i n g s ---
The duration of our STM is 18 seconds without rehearsal - information can be stored in our STM for 18 seconds before it fades

There were 24 participants
Each participant was asked to repeat a set of 3 consonants (a trigram) that they were told to remember
After they repeated them they were asked to say a three digit number and then count backwards in 3s and 4s form that number (intrfearence task)
