Differentiation for Pre-Assessment
Year 1- Maths- 2D Shapes
the 5 students who answered most
Differentiated Instruction Plan
Because these students can already recognize all the 2D shapes and talk about their properties using the target vocabulary such as sides, curved, straight, etc., they will work on an activity to practice and extend their knowledge of 2D shapes. As an open ended task, they will be given dotted paper and asked to work on ways of making shapes in different ways. They will be asked questions to further their understanding of the topic and share it with a partner.

the 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills
Differentiated Instruction
These students can name some of the shapes and talk about some of their properties. So they will work on an activity that will help them practice the shape vocabulary and start thinking about curved and straight sides. They will record their work on whiteboards and write what shape they have made. Then they will talk about their shapes using the vocabulary provided for them. (A triangle has 3 straight sides. / A circle has one curved side., etc.)

They will be motivated to use the language only and the teacher will model and facilitate their use of the vocabulary. Their work won’t include any reading activities.
