ATOM
DEVELOPEMENT
-
-
-
Dalton and others imagined the atoms that composed all matter as tiny, solid spheres in various stages of motion.
THEORY
J.J. THOMNPSON
experiments with cathode ray tubes showed that all atoms contain tiny negatively charged subatomic particles or electrons.
-
JOHN DALTON
Was the first complete attempt to describe all matter in terms of atoms and their properties. The first part of his theory states that all matter is made of atoms, which are indivisible.
NIELS BOHR
proposed a theory for the hydrogen atom based on quantum theory that energy is transferred only in certain well defined quantities. Electrons should move around the nucleus but only in prescribed orbits
ISOTOPE
are variants of a particular chemical element which differ in neutron number, and consequently in nucleon number.
