How can differentiated instruction be used to assist students who are struggling?
DIFFERENTIATION
Task cards, Projects, Jobs for students
Visual aids: Videos, music, puzzles, games, dances, art-work, projects, infographics, storyboards, whiteboards, flash cards.
Interactive: Share with their partners what they learn, group work, acting out together, creating videos, creating stories, group pairing/sharing
Free time, study hall, homeroom, breath breaks
Auditory: podcasts, audiobooks, YouTube videos
Hands-on: Playdough, Slime, Shaving Cream, Puzzles, crafts, drawing, writing, painting, doodling, whiteboards
Assessments, Identifying what they know
How do teachers involve parents in helping struggling students?
CONSTANT COMMUNCIATION
Provide tools and videos to have the student do at home with parents/guardians
Encourage parents to ask student questions/ maybe provide questions to ask
Send goal charts and progress reports home to parent frequently
Talk with special education teachers and have them be in a loop with you and the parents.
Praise the student, encourage to do so at home and at school.
How do you determine if a student should be referred to special education services?
Meet with parents of student
Assess student, test knowledge, post-assessments
If student needs extra help provide tutoring services

School Provides resources such as books, special education instructors, tutors, mentors, tools to use, parent/student resources
Special Education Services, Public School help (I work in a Private School, and Public School has more resources specifically for special needs students)

Connections to outside resources such a schools and learning centers.
What are the signs of a struggling student?
Students who are struggling tend to be disruptive, quiet or distracted
