Fossil Fuel Products Coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil shales, bitumens, tar sands, and heavy oils. All contain carbon and were formed as a result of geologic processes acting on the remains of organic matter produced by photosynthesis. 
Advantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source Fossil fuels can generate a large amount of electricity at a single location. They are easily found. They are cost-effective. Transportation of oil and gas can be done easily through pipelines. They have become safer over time. Despite being a finite resource, there’s too much available.
Alternative sources of energySolar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and hydropower. Some of the advantages are no greenhouse emissions, diversifying energy and reducing dependence and it creates more economy by developing more jobs.
