Hydrocarbons
Fossil Fuel Products Coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil shales, bitumens, tar sands, and heavy oils. All contain carbon and were formed as a result of geologic processes acting on the remains of organic matter produced by photosynthesis.
Advantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source Fossil fuels can generate a large amount of electricity at a single location. They are easily found. They are cost-effective. Transportation of oil and gas can be done easily through pipelines. They have become safer over time. Despite being a finite resource, there’s too much available.
Alternative sources of energySolar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy and hydropower. Some of the advantages are no greenhouse emissions, diversifying energy and reducing dependence and it creates more economy by developing more jobs.
Petroleum dependency in Mexico and at least two more countries of your choiceThe petroleum industry in Mexico makes it the eleventh largest producer of oil in the world and the thirteenth largest in terms of net exports. Another country is U.S.A which in 2008 imported oil from 10 countries.China has a huge dependency in oil, it consumes 17,300,000 barrels of oil per day.
Environmental implications of fossil fuel obtentionLand degradation, water pollution, emissions, ocean acidification, Its extraction and combustion increase the proportion of greenhouse gases, such as methane and carbon dioxide, drilling and spills.
Three countries that depend on alternative sources of energy and their strategy Sweden, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Scotland and Uruguay. For most of these countries their startaegy is to have more than 80% in alternative sources of energy. But for achieving this it is importan to have a cleardecision-making, suportive environment and a partnership between public and private sector.
Political & economic implications on fossil fuel dependencySome of the implications are that, many of the places that have this resources are very limited, this has obligate the countries to fight along the time to have acces to this. The richest countries have more acces to his energy than poor countries.
