GRE This is sent electronically from the Educational Testing Service directly to UC Irvine. Please choose Institution Code 4859 on the GRE. Be sure to check with the program to which you are applying to determine if this is required.
TOEFL or IELTS If required; scores will be sent directly to UC Irvine by the testing agency. Please choose Institution Code 4859. We do not accept MyBest scores; you must submit all individual test scores.
Letters of Recommendation
Three letters of recommendation
are required.
For the Applicant:
Complete the Letter of Recommendation section on the online application.
This will allow you to enter in your recommenders' names and e-mail addresses. An automated e-mail invitation will be sent to each of your recommenders. It is strongly recommended that you waive or decline to waive your rights of access to your letters of recommendation
. After you have completed and submitted your application, you may continue to manage and monitor the status of their submission by logging into your online application and viewing the status page. We do not accept paper recommendation letters. Your recommenders must submit the letters via the recommendation form that is sent to them via email.
For the Recommender:
Your student will provide your contact information on their application which will generate an automated e-mail inviting you to log in and complete a recommendation form. Please follow the steps on the form and submit your recommendation for their application. The form will support document uploads or you may copy and paste the text of your letter. We do not accept paper recommendation letters.
Transcripts: For application review purposes only,
scan and upload copies of transcripts for all institutions attended since high school
. In the online application, you will be prompted to upload your scanned documents. Please upload both the front and back sides of the transcript.
Uploaded transcripts should be recent and include the following: your name, dates of attendance, grades/marks received, credits and grading legend.
UCI reserves the right to require official transcripts at any time during the admission process, and rescind any offer of admission made if discrepancies between uploaded and official transcript(s) are found. Official transcripts will be requested if and when you are admitted and decide to attend UCI.
Do not send official transcripts until this time, unless you are requested to do so.
Supplemental Materials: Some programs require submission of additional materials; please contact your program of interest to determine if any additional materials are required.
You must supply a valid e-mail address that you will maintain at least 8 months after you apply. If you are admitted, you will be notified via this e-mail address.

Official Transcripts and Degree Conferral (Proof of Degree)
Official transcripts are required and must be received before an application is reviewed. A hard copy transcript is considered official when it is in a sealed, unopened envelope sent directly from your previous institution. To complete your application, submit official transcripts and proof of your undergraduate degree (if completed) from all previously attended post-secondary institutions, even if you were not a matriculated student and/or did not complete an academic program. Failure to submit all academic records will delay the processing of your application, and failure to report all schools attended in the "Academic History" section of the application may result in admission rescission or withdrawal from consideration.

Testing Information
Find out if your program requires the GRE or GMAT here: GRE/GMAT Requirements. If the GRE is required for your programs, your official test scores must be on file before your application will be reviewed. To be considered official, the GRE test scores must be submitted electronically through ETS (institution code is 2668; a departmental code is not required). Academic Records and Proof of Degree from Indian Institutions
Official university-issued or attested copies of college transcripts or a consolidated statement of marks
If sending attested copies of your mark sheets, the attestation must be made by (and only by) the Controller of Examinations or Registrar from the degree-granting institution and received in a sealed envelope from the institution.
If a degree has been earned at the time of application, an attested copy of the official Degree Certificate must be submitted. If the Degree Certificate is not yet available, an attested copy of the official Provisional Degree will be accepted for admission purposes only. Please note that we do not accept self-attested copies, they must be attested by your institution.

English Language Proficiency Testing
All applicants to the NYU Tandon School of Engineering for graduate study must demonstrate excellent English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension. Proficiency will be determined by the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)*, International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Duolingo English Test, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), or Pearson PTE Academic exams. You must submit your English language proficiency scores electronically via the testing agency.
The Office of Graduate Enrollment Management and Admissions reserves the right to request proof of English competency from any applicant. At least one of these exams is required for:

Applicants whose first language is not English and/or who have not completed a bachelor’s degree in the United States.
The NYU Tandon School of Engineering requires that graduate applicants achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 90 on the internet-based test, an overall band of 7.0 on IELTS, a score of 115 on the Duolingo English Test, a 65 on the Pearson PTE Academics exam, or a C1 on the Cambridge English: Advanced exam.
The NYU Tandon School of Engineering TOEFL institution code is 2668. Please send electronic IELTS scores to Tandon School of Engineering, NYU. You can send hard copy results of your Official IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) to our processing center.
TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE scores are valid for two years. The test must be taken again if your score is older than two years at the time of application submission.

Applicants may request a waiver of English Language Proficiency Testing for special cases by submitting a waiver request form. If you have attended a US institution for four years and earned a bachelor’s degree, or two years, and earned a master’s degree, you will automatically be reviewed for a waiver and do not need to submit a waiver request form. This request will be reviewed only after transcripts have been received.

All graduate programs at NYU Tandon School of Engineering are considered STEM Programs based on the government classification (CIP codes) and are available for the STEM OPT extension. The STEM OPT extension is a 24-month period of temporary training that directly relates to an F-1 student's program of study in an approved STEM field. Eligible F-1 students with STEM degrees who finish their program of study and participate in an initial period of regular 12-month post-completion OPT have to option to apply for this extension for a total OPT period of 36 months.
