Pre Assessment for Differentiation: Grade 9 by Mark Cheong
The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score. These students missed 3-5 questions.
Students here receive some help from the teacher and TA when needed
Group Research
- Depending on what the students missed out on, the teacher will create a worksheet of objectives that they will do together. Students can use the internet.The teacher will walk around to assist as needed
Goal Setting
using a KWL Chart you can create the content that needs to be known. After the work is completed, the teacher can review with them to see if they understood
Group Study or Project
- make and study flash cards, make a song about the concepts missed, etc. Then, each group will play Kahoot on their own.
Groups will be broken down into 3 to 4 people per group since groups are so big
The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
Students here will work more independently
Adding critical thinking
- The teacher can provide an article about global warming. The teacher can make a questionnaire for the group answering questions about the economics of climate change and climate policy
Peer teaching
- The teacher can assign these students with the task of working on a group presentation about the impact of economics of climate change and climate policy. Each member of this group would have to do their own research and contribute at the end of class
Extended Knowledge
- The teacher can create a challenging quiz online to track the students
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
Students will need a lot of support
These students could use more visuals. The teacher can have these students look at video content on the topic from YouTube.
Design a remediation plan for these students
Give them more time to complete task.
Use pictures, words, and real life stories to reteach the content
Find time to meet independently with each student on a weekly basis
