5th Grade English Language Lesson on Proper Adjectives After a pre…

- - - - 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
        
        What is an Adjective It is possible that these students need a refresher of what exactly is an adjective. Therefore they would be presented with a video and discussion with the teacher about what are adjectives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxoDGlPUmyU
        
        Proper Adjective Map Students work with the teacher to match where the proper adjectives goes on a world map. Students are given a map with the country names and have to decipher which proper adjective matches which country. This activity also gives the teacher time to evaluate where the students are having challenges and may require special needs assistance.
        
        Teacher One-on-One To provide immediate consultation and evaluation, the teacher will work with these 2 students one-on-one on a special worksheet about proper adjectives. The students will sit with the teacher as they guide the two students through the worksheet. This will also give the teacher time to evaluate where exactly the students are experiencing challenges and refer them for additional assistance as necessary.
        
        Worksheet Assessment Another option is to have the students complete a worksheet assessment orally with the teacher. The teacher can ask multiple questions on the spot to check for understanding and gauge where the student is still struggling.
        
        Kahoot! Assessment Students will then complete an self-paced Kahoot! with pictures and media to assist them. The Kahoot! will have multiple question types to present a more detailed understanding of where the student is having challenges.
      - 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels
        
        Go Fish, for Proper Adjectives Students work with their peers from the upper level group to play a game of Go Fish. The card deck is a series of pictures of proper adjectives and a written proper noun. For example, "Taiwan" with a picture of Taiwanese food. The students take turns asking for the proper adjective cards to complete their deck. The goal is to get the students to recognize the pictures and the proper noun and respond by asking for the proper adjective.
        
        Proper Adjective Worksheet Students work together in groups to look for the proper adjectives in the worksheet. Additionally, they can be asked to highlight the nouns or subjects as well as read the sentences out-loud to their advanced peers to help with their reading abilities.
        
        YouTube Video Assessment Upon completion of the activities, students will then engage in another assessment to see if they have understood the topic of proper adjectives. Students will watch this YouTube video and record their answers using ESLVideo, which enables teachers to create questions throughout a video that students can respond to.

- - - - Countries and Nationalities Worksheet Students will then use the tablets in groups to answer questions to the worksheet. The worksheet presents students with a series of flags which they must then use to identify the country and nationality/proper adjective.

        Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego Google Earth Game. If time remains, students may play the game with one of the students from the more advanced group as a guide. As there are multiple scenarios, the advanced students can play new missions or replay old ones to help their peers.
- - - - Super Solvers Midnight Rescue Upon completion of the Invent a Country Activity, students may choose to play this game. This game requires students to race against the clock to discover which mischievous robot has been vandalizing the school. Students are required to read short passages and answer questions based on the reading. This activity will help these students with their reading comprehension as well as be exposed to some new vocabulary.
