1.8 Ethics and Environmental issues On changes in technology
Cultural issues
Digital divide
Certain cultures and economies have a significant difference in the amount of tech they have access to compared to others. For example, in The Congo barely anyone has access to a computer whereas in Norhtern europe nearly everyone has access to a computer
Influence on design
Design ideas fitting usual norms in different societies for example menus on the left in western civilisations but being on the right in Asian or societies which read right to left
Pace of change
Older cultures needing to adapt to upgrades in technology.
Censorhsip
All govts choose what is seen by its people on the internet. For example in china barely anything not approved personally in mainland china is available for its citizens. In Canada however you can view almost anything you like asa long as its not outright illegal content
Types of software
Propietary
Software that isnt usually free to access. Usually gets updated regularly by the supplier and you cant get access to the source code
Open source
Can get hold of the source code. Gets updates through community made tweaks and is usually free to use.

Using computers to hack in order to gain access to data, to spy and blackmail.
Stakeholders
key stakeholders
The main stakeholders are customers of the technology in question and the sellers. Others include the people nearby waste deposits of unused tech.
key impacts
changes in price will change who and what kind of people will buy it. what abilities new tech will grant you may lead to good and bad effects for example much faster computers for better efficiency or much beter hacking capabilities
definition of stakeholders
Stakeholders are the people who are affected by change in technology
ethical issues
AI
How will we treat AIs when they begin to mimic people better? AI stands for artificial intelligence and is when a computer is capable of choosing based on conditions

piracy
Is it moral to pirate data? Piracy is the process in which a near perfect copy of data is created and distributed at lower prices or for free.
Environmental issues
Dsiposal
Usually sent to scrap heaps where they are searched and dug through by people looking for usable tech.
Energy
Each computer, on avg, takes 10 times the amount of weight in fuel and energy compared to its actual weight
Toxic materials
Computers of full of harmful chemicals like mercury, radioactive isotopes, chromium and cadmium.. They need specialists to dispose of it properly in order to avoid health issues
