The August Riots
In 2011 there was violence and rioting in the UK. It began peacefully however it tuned sour because the police shot a local man but it was followed by looting, rioting and criminal damage. Millions of pounds of damage were caused and nearly 4000 people were arrested.

Holy war.
It must be authorised by a religious leader wit great authority. The purpose of the war should be to defend their faith against attack.
Those who take part in the fighting believe they will gain spiritual rewards
A war cannot be declared to force people to convert to their faith or for financial gain or power
Justification
In the Old testament there are a number of reference to wars being fought over the promised land. Beat the cutting blades of your ploughs into swords, refers to the Prophet Joel encouraging people to turn their everyday farming equipment into tools to fight with
Muslims believe you can defend yourself and your faith against attack. ' those who have been attacked are permitted to tale up arms because they have been wronged'. There are a number of examples of Muhammad going to war in order to do this
Cause Of War
Even though Christianity teached we should not respond violently to disputes. Examples- there have been tensions in Northern Ireland know as 'The Troubles' between the Protestant and catholic denominations of Christianity.
This did also involve political issues, not just religious ones
Peace making
Many Christians not only promote non-violence but also actively work to create peace across he world. For example, they know that conflict often arises because people are not being treated fairly or are being denied their Human Rights, so they campaign for fairness and equality
Victims of war
If the main wage earner does in a war, the family may struggle without them
If a place of work is destroyed in a war and nobody can earn a wage there
If crops are destroyed or water supplies polluted, starvation could follow for those living in surrounding areas
Christian Aid
they work with victims of war, including refugees. they are working in Syria to help refugees who have had to flee their home as a result of the civil war.
Example- they are ensuring Syrian children get to continue their education and give them psychological support to help them come to terms with their experiences. Also provide hot meals.
Just War Theory
Example
We can use WW2 as an example. You could argue Britain used war as a Last Resort against Germany after giving them notice to cease their invasion of Poland.

A Christian called St Thomas Aquinas developed the Just War Theory. The idea was to lay out the conditions that make war justifiable and provides rules on how the war should be fought
