in Africa, there were no women in the rhythm section of performances, and how women could not play percussion and were only allowed and expected to dance.
Orchestra family
The percussion westerm orchestral family dominated in the African Music, as we can see very rhythmic beats and mostly drum instruments in African Music.
drums were an African heritage and were losing popularity, but they provoked emotion and movement
Women in Africa were also looked on as loose and dirty for playing the drums, and were less desirable and less feeble
women in Africa had a designated space, yet the woman in the TED talk didn't want this and used drums to tell her story. I could also observe that she really liked playing the drums, and was playing with full passion in her performance.
Music helps to express the culture's beliefs and prompts people in different cultures around the world to dance and express how they feel with movement.
-
Music also helps us communicate and it's how we express ourselves. Communication is key in all cultures and by putting on a show and song it can help to express how people really feel. Communication is made easier with music.
