Systems of linear equations and inequalities
Graphing
1)
2)
When is graphing best? Graphing is best when you are solving an inequality. This is because it is easy to visualize on a graph.
Substitution :
1)
Start: y=3x+5, 2y-6x=4
Rewrite equations: y=3x+5, -6x+2y=4
Solve: put 3x+5 in for y in the second equation
Substitute: -6x+2(3x+5)=4
-6x+6x+10=4
10=4
X=0
Substitute x and sub for y: -6x+2(0)=4
-6x=4
When is substitution best? It is best to use substitution in an equation where there is already a variable by itself. This is because then you are able to substitute easier.
Elimination
When is elimination best? It is beet to use elimination when the system of equations has both equations in standard form
Example problems:
1) Y=3x+5, 2y-6x=4
2) y>x-3
