Parable of the Rich Fool Period 3 Group 2
Verse 15: Then he said, "Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own."
Verse 15:
Back then only the Rabbis or teachers were the ones to solve problems. Jesus was more concerned to heal relationships between people and deal with issues that divided them.
Verse 17: He said to himself, 'What should I do?' I don't have room for all my crops.'
Verse 17:
He was worried about himself. He was worried about what he had, and so the greed took over him, and he was self centered.
What is Jesus trying to teach us through this Parable?
Our thoughts: We should not focus on our worldly possessions, but rather we should focus on our relationship with God. We should focus on our relationship with God, because in the end we won't be taking any of our things with us, but rather our relationship with God will determine what happens in the end.
Verse 16: this time, the man's field grew abundantly and it was time for harvest. But he did not have a place to store the food!
Verse 16:
The Israelite farmers did not need to depend on irrigation for water...The Israelite farmers learned how to grow crops according to the yearly cycle of rainy and dryspells.
Verse 18: Then he said, 'I know! I'll tear down down my barns and build bigger one. Then I'll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods.
Verse 19: And I'll sit sit back and say to myself, "My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!"
Verse 18: The rich man's greed surged him to build new barns to store up all the wheat, but he didn't take the time to either thank God or be grateful for his wealth.
Verse 19: Back in the day if the land was owned by two brothers, the older one had to agree to share with the younger one. In here it shows that he was not content with what he had, so he kept on working until it was big enough for him.
Verse 20: But God said to him, 'You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?'
Verse 20:
All the things we have are not ours, but they all belong to God. So we shouldn't be greedy about the things we have, because they were never ours to begin with.
Verse 21: "Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a good relationship with God."
In this parable Jesus said more about the money than He did about prayer .
