Group 1: High Achievers
During the class, show them a short video with instructions on how to compare and contrast the themes, settings, and plots of stories.
Prepare two stories that fit their reading level, and split them into two reading groups.
Each group reads the stories and fills out a challenging compare & contrast graphic organizer.
Exchange the compare & contrast graphic organizer, discuss their answers, and turn it in after done.
The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
They have high levels of mastery and could be asked to complete tasks in the areas of evaluating and creating.
Group 2: Average Achievers
The 12 students have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher-order thinking skills.
During the class, prepare two stories that fit their reading levels, and then read the stories with them.
Assess their understanding by pausing and asking questions about what they have read. Formats include multiple-choice, short answer, and fill-in-the-blank questions.
Fill out a story map for each story together on the board to help them better understand the stories and story elements.
Give them a compare & contrast graphic organizer and fill out one answer in each column as an example to scaffold them.
They need to fill out the rest of the graphic organizer by themselves in a group setting.
After finishing their graphic organizer, they will get a graphic organizer that fills out by me. Check the answers out by themselves and turn the final one in.
This group with some mastery could be asked to apply and analyze the content.
Group 3: Low Achievers
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels, and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
Pre-teach them the keywords and sight words. Use technology aids if it's necessary.
During the class, prepare two stories both in text and in video versions. Ask them to read and watch the stories individually.
Finish the exit ticket questions at the end to demonstrate understanding. Record the wrong answers.
Each one of them will get a heterogeneous partner teacher from the high achiever team,
Pair them up, re-read the stories in text, and re-do the exit ticket questions. Express confusions if there is any.
Fill out a simple compare & contrast graphic organizer and turn it in.
Tell them what the learning objectives are for the next lesson.
They are unfamiliar with the content and would be required to focus on completing tasks on the lower levels: Remembering and Understanding.
