Cross Connection: During meiosis homologous chromosomes break differently each time, because of this we cannot say that we get one-fourth of DNA from each of our grandparents.
Cross Connection: For perennial plants it is easy for them to maintain purebred lines because they are able to produce both pollen and ovules for experimentation for years. For annuals it is very difficult because seed gathering, pollination, planting, and record keeping has to been done annually.
Cross Connection: Flower color in four o'clocks are controlled by a gene with two alleles. The DNA sequence of one results in a protein whose primary and tertiary structures cause it to synthesize red pigment. The other codes for a protein whose tertiary structure is misformed. This makes the flowers white. If a small amount of pigment is produced, the flower is pink. Flower color is the phenotype and the type of alleles present is its genotype.
