File

Print
manage printing of documents , can reroute print requests
Application
install, operate and monitor applications.it also manages restricted access applications
Database
a specialist role of an application server, manages database of multiple users manages all activities whether its relational , flat file or object oriented
Web
also called hardware server, internet server that reacts to HTTP
mail
acts as an electronic post office, local and external use SMTP to send and POP3 or IMAP to receive them
Hypervisor
software written for a specific processor which manages different operating systems. Manages resources such as Processor, memory and devices preventing clashes
Network characteristics
peer to peer
formed by groups of computers, all computers handle their own security
star
All cables run to a central connection point. If one cable breaks or fails, only the computer that is connected to that cable is unable to use the network.

multiple connections make it fault tolerant, every component is directly connected to eachother
