Fractional Distilation - Coggle Diagram
Fractional Distilation
Fractional Distillation
Crude oil
made up of hydrogen and carbon
3 main substance
Petrol
Kerosene
Disel
complex of hydrocarbons
Finite resource
Used in fuel and feed stock for petrochemical industry
Carbon atoms form rings or chains
Process of fractional distillation
1) Crude oil is heated to 370 degrees and vapourised
3) Column is hot at the bottom and cold at the top
2) The vapour pass into the column
4) Vapour cool and condense at different temperatures
5) Long chain form near the bottom and short chain form at the top
Hydrocarbons
1) Natural gasses - Domestic heating and cooking
5) Fuel oil - Used for large ships and powerstations
6) Bitumen - Used for roof and road surfacing
3) Kerosene - Fuel for aircrafts
4) Diesel oil - Fuel for some cars and trains
2) Petrol - Fuel for cars
4 general trends
Number of carbon atoms increase
Boiling point increases
Viscosity increases
Phase of ignition increases
