Sound
Sampling
Computers only work with digital signals so the analogue recordings need to be converted into digital readings.
-
-
Making a physical measurement at set time intervals and then converting the measurements to digital values.
The more measurements, the better the approximation and quality of the reading. More measurements however means a larger file size.
-
Analogue
For High pitched sounds there are more waves or vibrations per second. This means it has a higher frequency.
There is a continuous change in the air pressure and the recording methods that try to capture this change. They convert all the changes in air pressure to changes in voltage called analogue recordings.

Digital Audio File Size
To calculate the file size you need to know: Sample rate, Bit depth, Number of channels (mono or stereo), length of recording.
