RESPIRATORY SYSTEM - Coggle Diagram
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Respiration
Biochemical Process
by which
Cells
tranforms
Oxygen and Glucose
into
CO2 and water
and releasing
Energy
Oxidation of food to form carbon dioxide, water and energy
Energy released in the form of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate)
Large number of enzymes invovled
Intra cellular process
Occurs in all cells of the body
Breathing
Movement of air in and out of the lungs
Physical process
Inspiration
Expiration
No energy released, rather it is used
No enzymes involved
Extra cellular process
THE PARTS OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
THE NOSE
Hair in nose traps the dust particles
Lining of the nose produce MUCUS
Makes air moist
Traps bacteria
Blood vessels (capillaries) beneath the nasal lining release heat that warms the air before it passes to the lungs
THE WINDPIPE
Trachea
Length=10 cm Width=1.5 cm
Made from C shaped rings of cartilage
The trachea serves as passage for air, moistens and warms it while it passes into the lungs
CELLS
MUCUS SECRETING
Traps dust and bacteria
CILIATED EPITHELIAL
Microscopic hairs
Move mucus
BRONCHI
airways that lead from the trachea into the lungs
The bronchi are made up of cartilage, smooth muscle, and mucous membranes.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
bronchitis,
asthma
Allergy from proteins
Inhaler used
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
lung cancer
BRONCHIOLES
Divisions of Bronchi
It's walls are made of muscles
They have further divisions
Do not ave hoops of cartilage
