Steps of Identifying a struggling student and Providing of Appropriate support
Identifying a struggling student
Student not engaged
Teacher identifies and uses differentiated instruction
Tier 1 intervention
Tier 2 intervention
student responds well and goes to tier 1 intervention
Tier 3 intervention
Student responds well after and goes to tier 2 and 1
student responds well
Student is not getting passing grades during assessment and evaluations
Teacher provides a Tier 1 support using differentiated instruction that is appropriate for the student's skill level by taking into consideration how the student learns best
Student responds positively
Student is still struggling to be an active learner and is not able to do
tasks well
Teacher provides Tier 2 support By doing activities in small groups, After school engagements, or flex times by using intervention methods that have been effective . The teacher will do an assessment if this intervention has resulted in any progress after one or two weeks
Student is lagging behind during class activities
Teacher refers the student to SST/SSS, student support team/supporting student success meetings to discuss on said concerns with other teachers across divisions and disciplines on the same grade level, counselors and principals to gain overall understanding of performance of said student. After this meeting they will devise a plan of support to implement.
Student is emotionally and socially withdrawn
Teacher refers student to grade level counselor
Student will meet counselor and psychologist in school
Parents are informed and involved
Student gets well and better adjusted
and has started actively learning and does not need to meet counselor anymore
Counselor and psychologist see a need to refer student to a psychiatrist
After report from the doctor, parents, teachers, counselors and principals devise a learning plan that will best suit the students need and continue assessments and evaluations to see progress
Student has a diagnosis beforehand that impacts learning and achievement of grade standards and social-emotional wellbeing by a doctor or practitioner
