Biomechanics Year 12 - Coggle Diagram

- - - - e.g. - your body is in its state of rest at the starting blocks. The power exerted from your gastrocnemius overcomes inertia when you take off from the blocks. You are then running at a constant velocity if no external force acts upon it.
- - - - force = mass x acceleration (F=ma)
        
        e.g. In the drive in golf receives a greater change in velocity than during a putt as the force exerted onto it is bigger.
- - - - If it is in contact with the floor, this is known as a 'ground reaction force'
        
        e.g. When in the drive phase of running, the foot is in contact with the floor and as they are pushing off the floor, the gastrocnemius is producing a force into the ground and the force acts into the leg from the floor. This creates a stronger, more powerful drive and so the athlete will be faster.

        the height of centre of mass, the mass of the performer, the area of the base of support, the position of the line of gravity
