Mary is an elderly lady who lives alone. She is married, however her husband is currently being cared for in hospital, suffering late-stage Alzheimer’s dementia. Mary has three adult children but her youngest daughter died 2 years ago. Mary attended her GP for help and advice, reporting not being able to concentrate and not feeling herself, having no appetite and not being able to sleep, having feelings of sadness and a low mood. The GP prescribed Citalopram and asked Mary to engage with IAPT services.
