Displaying and Describing Categorical Data

The Three Rules of Data Analysis

it is important when analyzing data to see what is happening to it

2. Make a Picture, when doing this the data can SHOW you new thing about your investigation.

  1. Make a Picture the best was to TELL other about your investigation is through pictures.
  1. Make a Picture when you take a picture it can make you THINK, about other information that you could not see on a table

Frequency Tables: Making Piles

This types of tables shows the percentages at which ( in an specific situation) the counts occur.

Bar Charts

A bar chats show you the specific counts of the categorical variables, next to each other making it easy to understand and analyze.

A relative frequent bar chart includes the percentages of the categorical variables and excludes the counts.

Pie Charts

A pie chart shows all the categorical variables together in the form of a circle it represents the portion of the circle as the amount of counts in the investigation.

Contingency Tables

Shows how and individuals are distributed along each variable. Each cells tells you the count for the combination of values for the two variables.

Conditional Distribution

Conditional distribution could be made into any sort of image (pie, bar or table) rather than a display is giving a condition to the data and presenting the variable that could answer that condition.

Segment Bars

On segment bars the whole is represented as a single bar but then is divided proportionally (by percentages) that each groups holds.
