- peace was attmepted between france and england through the marriage of henrys younger sister mary and louisXII - this was however , shortlived following louis' death in 1516.

- treaty of cambrai left engalnd isolated and created a weaker relationship between the two. francis was able to exploit englands isolation through the duke of albany; a memeber of the french nobility and regent in the scottish throne.
1518 - wolsey was able to to end engalands isolation with the treaty of london (which turned into the treaty of perpetual peace) - improving relations massively with france

- War with Scotland leads to the death of King James IV at the Battle of Flodden (larger Scottish army against a small English one), and the ascension of King James V (a child). Henry did not capitalise on this due to his lack of funds

- The Duke of Albany (Scottish heir presumptive and French Aristocrat) is made regent, but is unable to interfere with England due to divisions amongst Scottish nobles. Henry was unable to exploit these further

- Albany removed from Scotland by the French (who England was friends with at the time)

- Henry splits with Rome, which angers Catholic Scotland
1538
- The Pope attempts to rouse support for a Catholic Crusade from Scotland and France
1542 - Scotland is invaded by England, and suffers heavy defeats at the Battle of Solway Moss. James V dies, leaving his infant Mary as heir. Henry did not capitalise on this due to his preoccupation with France
1543 - Edward VI and Mary I were betrothed in the Treaty of Greenwich (after 'rough wooing'), but the treaty was not ratified by Scottish Parliament and fell apart
1544 - Henry orders an invasion of Scotland, and raids Edinburgh
SUMMARY
- For most of his reign, Henry had poor relations with the Scots, especially when at war with France. However, he could have capitalised on the military victories that he had, and as such subjugated or taken over Scotland easily

The Treaty of Cambrai established peace between France and the Holy Roman Empire in 1517
The Treaty of London in 1518 established general peace among Europe, including England and the Holy Roman Empire which strengthened the relationship
Treaty of Bruges in 1521 between England and the Holy Roman Empire under Charles V brought an alliance between England and the Holy Roman Empire, although this alliance was in secret it still bettered relations between the two countries
In 1527 England offered support to France against the Holy Roman Empire which weakened the relationship between England and the Holy Roman Empire

Henry began the English break from Rome in 1533; this would weaken the relations between England and the Holy Roman Empire
The pope in Rome attempted to unite all Catholics in 1539 to wage war against Henry VIII due to the break from Rome; this is evidence the break from Rome caused the downfall of England's relationship with the Holy Roman Empire
