Was the Settlement of the Western Frontier Inevitable? (Anny-red, Cecilia- pink,Elzarriya-
Westward expansion was inevitable because of the settlers want for gold. Settlers would always be seeking economic gain so they were always going to expand west. This hunger for money resulted in railroad monopolies that increased pricing for farmers. This resulted in a time of advocacy for the improvement of farmer's conditions.
Populist Party- a party that sought to support farmers with a series of reforms such as direct elections of senators, implementing bimetalism, and a graduated income tax

Opportunity
Mining: Gold was found in the west, causing a large gold rush. This caused many people to leave their homes in the East and head West hoping to strike it rich and find gold.
Homestead Act: People were given land (160 acres) at a really low cost in hopes to persuade and encourage Western migration. In exchange, these settlers had to pay a small fee which was completed in the span of five years before being able to claim full ownership of the land.
Exodusters: Exodusters were people who wanted to take advantage of the Homestead Act and head west. Most of the Exodusters were former slaves looking to start a new life or poor whites looking for opportunity.
Ranching: Cowboys took advantage of the open land in the west and transported cows from the West to Eastern meat packing plants. The life of cowboys is usually romantacized and has become part of American mythology.
Longhorns: Longhorns are a certain type of cow that are very accostumed to dry grasslands and are able to travel long distances without water and only eat grass. Longhorns made up the majority of the cows that cowboys led East.
Barbed Wire: Barbed Wire was strung up all over private property in the west. This kept cowboys out of farmers land and eventually led to the end of ranching.
The oppressed were always going to be in search of new opportunities. African Americans, widows, and immigrants were constantly searching to escape discrimination. So sooner or later they were going to migrate in search of better opportunities.

Manifest destiny
Native American conflict- These conflicts were recurring things caused by Americas expansion to the west
Westward expansion had an extremely negative effect on the Plains Native Americans. The Plains Native Americans lived a nomadic lifestyle with open communal land. They were forced to assimilate to a whole new way of life deemed “modern” by the settlers. After uprooting their homes and traditions, many of them were sent to restrictive boarding schools. They were not allowed to speak their native language and were stripped of their culture. They faced decades of torture, rape, and death. Even the American Buffalo, which was very useful and important to the Native Americans, were shot for sport by traders and tourists as a result of westward expansion.
Great Plains: Prior to Western Expansion and Manifest Destiny, The Great Plains belonged to the Native Americans of the west. They were nomadic people who hunted and followed the buffalo.
Buffalo: The Native Americans depended on buffalo for their way of life. They nomadically followed and hunted the buffalo. They only killed the buffalo that they needed and used every part of the buffalo. When settlers came West and started hunting buffalo for sport, making the buffalo populatio rapidly decline, it destroyed the Native American's way of life.
Battle of Wounded Knee: This was the final "battle of the Native American Wars. It was less of a battle and more of a massacre. George Custer's old regiment (the 7th Calvary) took the remaining Sioux to a camp and demanded that they give up their weapons. As the weapons were being given up, a weapon went off. It's thought that it was probably an accidet, but no one knows. After the weapon went off, the 7th Calvary opened fire, killing almost every Sioux present.
Yes, we believe the settlement of the Western Frontier was inevitable.

The Whole idea of manifest destiny was the idea that Americans were destined to conquer the entirety of North America
