Strategy for differentiation
Cultural Studies - People and the marketplace
The 5 students who
answered most
, including the most
difficult,
of the pre-assessment questions correctly
These students will work together as a group to evaluate the ways in which people make choices about spending money. They will try to defend, argue and support reasons behind choices
All 5 students will choose from a list of 'occupations.' They will be split into two teams. Both teams will be given a 'budget.'
Each student will have a list of products or services that cost something and they teams need to decide what is best for their group as a whole. This will involve debating and justifying reasons among the group
Each team will present their choices on the form of a presentation to the class. The whole class discuss decisions made by the two teams. This is where the group can defend their choices
Each student will complete a short write up with questions by the teacher to assess what they have learnt
The 12 students who have
some
knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop
higher order thinking skills
. They activities will be split into three distinct categories
Understand
= to explain ideas and concepts
The will work in pairs and be tasked with explaining how producers and consumers depend on each other by creating a comic strip of 3 different interactions between these categories.
Apply
= Use information in new situations
They will work in threes to come up with very short dialogues of conversations between a consumer buying something from a producer
Analyse
= draw connections among ideas
They will compare what its like to have the spending power of someone with a higher budget than a lower budget and compare what each person can afford depending on wants and needs.
The 5 students who appear to have
limited knowledge
about the topic
The 3 students
struggling with language
and are at different reading levels.
They will work in pairs to brainstorm examples of goods, services, producers and consumers
They will work on a computer and share the workload to find images of each of these categories and put it into a word document to be shown in class
They will be given a list of occupations and write up the main responsibility of each of these job to understand how they earn money.
The 2 students who have
little to no comprehension
of the the topic and need to be tested further for
special needs
They will be given a list job and they will complete a drawing of someone doing the job
They will complete an activity where they have to match the job to a picture of someone doing the job

Pre assessment
The students are given a task to 'spot the mistake.' They will complete this activity by themselves. It will be split into two halves; one with fill in the blanks and the other explain the problems
