The History of Medicine- Penicillin
Alexander Fleming
Fleming saw how staphylococcus had killed many soldiers and wanted to fin a solution for it.
His discovery was an accident as he left a petri dish full of staphylococcus in his lab and later came back a mold had started to form killing the bacteria
He called this mold Penicillin
So Fleming's discovery was all by CHANCE as he did not intentionally mean to find/create a 'antibiotic' that killed staphylococcus
Science and technology
Technology had a huge role in the discoveries of many key individuals as microscopes were used to find out about germs and why beverages were spoiling
After Fleming found out about Penicillin, Flory and chain applied his theories and tested the antibiotic out on animals
One experimented included 8 mice who were injected with dangerous microbes and 4 of the mice were later on injected with Penicillin to see which ones survived
War/Governmnet
Florey and Chain applied for funding during the war from the hard-up government who have them £25
This support would have helped them when experimenting on animals for example the 8 mice experimentation
Without this kind of support Florey and chain may have not been able to do what they have been able to achieve
