Importance of meditation
Meditation is important because it contributes toward reaching enlightenment, which is the main goal for Buddhists.

Theravada
The family donate money to charity in the person's name, and this helps them get a good rebirth, so the occasion isn't very lavish because they spent all the money on charity.
Places of Worship
Temples: one building or several buildings with a main hall, a meditation hall (gompa), a study hall, a shrine and a pagoda or stupa.
Monasteries/ Vihara: one building or several buildings where a community of monks and nuns live, study, eat, sleep, meditate and practice.
Shrines: a statue of the Buddha, offerings, flowers, incense and candles where Buddhists can pay respects to the Buddha, meditate and practice.
Kamma and rebirth
Kamma means that people have control over their next life, depending on their actions in this life; this is the wheel of samsara.
Unskilful: bad, unethical actions or behaviour.
Skilful: good, ethical actions or behaviour.

Visualisation is visualising something with your mind after you see it in front of you, or visualising a deity a important person like the Buddha. A kasina is an object that is in front of you to see and then close your eyes and visualise.
