Understand Until Session 4
Resistor- Device used to create resistance in the flow of energy so that the circuit does not over heat
Ammeter- Device used to measure strength of an electric current
Voltmeter: Device that measures the voltage in an electric current.
Voltage is what pushes electrons around an electric current
motor- Machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy so that energy can be harnessed into power grids, Electrical generators & ETC
Inductor-A device that stores electricity in a magnetic field.
switch- A device used to make or break a circut
Lamp
Represented with a specific symbol, a lamp is used as an output tool to indicate if the current is flowing or not. (in simple terms)
Capacitor: A two-terminal electrical component used to store energy in an electrical field.
Transformer- Instrument used to increase or decrease levels of electricity
Ground
The ground in an important concept in creating electrical circuits, because it allows excess charge to disperse when connected to a circuit.
DC voltage source- Source of energy that converts 2 types of energy (Nuclear, solar, thermal) into electrical energy
Diode
Converts AC to DC for utilisation by devices
Basic Concepts
Current
The rate of flow of charges past a point in an electric circuit
Measured in Ampere (or Amp)
Measured using an ammeter
Voltage
The potential difference in electric potential energy (per unit of charge) between two points
Measured in Volts
Measured using a voltmeter
Circuit
A closed circuit is a 'path' that transmits electrical current
