Urban Planning A2 Present Research
What amenities and buildings are in a typical communal complex?
List:
Parking
Electric Car Charging
Faster Charging for on-the-go, slow charging works fine for parking spaces
Bike storage
Motorbike storage
Housing
In individual housing units
Laundry Rooms
Hired Domestic Helper residents
Kitchens (Electrical, Thermal Devices)
Quality of life
A/C
Patio/Balcony
Storage Room
Electrical
Ethernet Service
Good network connection
Charging ports (Using typical HK 3-prong)
Bathrooms
Piping, water management, e.t.c.
Activity Rooms
Yoga
Excercise (Gym)
Spa (Can be in Mall)
E.t.c.
Mobility
Pedestrian walkways
Bus, outside street access.
Close to schools, or transports
Others
Typical Gardens
Lobbies
Elevators
Recycling
Security Posts
What materials are commonly used in urban buildings all around the world? Furthermore, are they sustainable?
Concrete
Most widely used in the world
Wood
Can be modofied to make funriture and such, great adaptability
Steel
Common reinforcement
Has solid and metal qualities
Plastic
Should mostly be re-used/recycled plastic for sustainability goal
Stone
General term for Granite, Marble, e.t.c. Has a wide range of textures. Shares similiar backgrounds with wood, being one of Humanity's foundation materials.
Textile
Get creative: Can be used to make/be used in: load-bearing chairs, inflatable spaces, fabric casting and wooden fabrics amongst others.
Glass
Transparency
Lighting
Brick
Hard to use properly, though it's apparently rigid structure gives it a interesting texture. A good example of great brickwork is Gaudi's works.
Kevlar
Expensive, though can be considered flexible version of steel. Best used for strong ropes, or rigging-eqsue builds
Bamboo
Situational-dependent, not applicable in HK. Wood is a substitude.
Carbon Fibre
Expensive (Due to novelty), and five times stronger than steel, twice as stiff, weighing significantly less. Essentially a combination of textile of steel.
Solar Pannel/Apparatus
Passive energy generation! Certain technologies allows it to be used within/alongside glass.
Straw
Thermal insulation
Earth/Organic Materials
Not really applicable for HK, though designs (E.g. Strong perimeter to Area Hexagons) can be taken inspiration from.
Sustainability:
A great majority of these materials can be sustainable, if used as recycled/reused materials: construction waste far outweighs the individual sustainable challenges that the individual raw materials provide.
What is the role of an Urban Planner?
Review plans for a area
Develops plans and programs for the use of land.
They use planning to improve cities, communities, even countries.
How can gentrification of urban neighborhoods be prevented and its effects turned beneficial?
Incorperate, rather than reject the new changes that Gentrification provides
Use the new income of ideas and cultures (way of lives), while limiting their effect on the local neihbourhood
Keep the locals and their culture in mind at all time
Aim to preserve it, and allow it to grow unimpended by others
How is a 3D Printer Operated?
Get a idea, or inspirationf for what you want to print
Convert that Idea into a Model. Change it into a STL Format
Splice up the Model! (The 3D printer woks in layers, so the model needs to be layer after layers in a nutshell)
Enter your design into the 3D printer, check that it functions properly, and Volia!
Always make sure to have safety gear equipped. Double-checking equipment is reconmmended.
