Are there any unique styles of buildings in Kennedy town?
Another type of building commonly seen are old style buildings from the 60s to 90s. Typically near the ocean. This is a prediction but from my prior knowledge, Kennedy town is a place where people who work in shops sell their products. So there are still many old styled wood buildings in the area of Kennedy Town.
This isn't a type of building, but there are many parks near the Victoria harbour, and Kennedy Town is near the coast. As mentioned before, many residents live near this area so, there are many parks an greenspace around the area.
One of the most commonly seen building types in Kennedy town are residential buildings. These buildings are most commonly seen because Kennedy town is an area near transportations and is near the centre of the city, therefore many families of different sizes live there.
What are the roles of an urban planner?
Some professional planners work on larger, community-wide plans, while others focus on specific issues. 'Ultimately, all planners promote the best use of a community’s land and resources for residential, commercial, or recreational purposes.'
As an area develops and changes, planners help communities manage issues such as related economics, social problems, environmental constraints. They do so in considering certain aspects such as: sheltering the homeless, or making the region more attractive to businesses.
Urban Planners helps plan/design/develop an area in the city. For example, urban planners might examine plans to build public facilities such as parks, or shopping centres. But they also might plan to build private areas such as schools hotels.
What method am I going to use to manufacture the final products?
After the designing, I will 3D print my designs with the 3D printer.
I will use my pencil to trace the exact size and measurements of my product before I 3D print
I will use the sanding machine to make the corners and edges of the 3D model look professional and neat.
What are sustainable materials we can use to build our area?
The second material I will be using is concrete. Even though concrete doesn't degrade in short years, concrete can be used for a long time and is very firm. Concrete is also reusable and suitable for building long-term buildings.
The third sustainable material I will be using are reclaimed or re-used metals. This is a sustainable choice because metals are firm and aren't fragile so can be used for many times.
I can choose to use hard timber for the outside of my residential buildings because timber is sustainable and can is bio-degradable.
Which types of buildings define Hong Kong’s culture?
Another traditional Hong Kong building is a building called 'Pank Uk', this style of building is special because its partly in water and this is commonly seen from the 1800s to the early 1900s because Hong Kong used to be a fishing village.
One of Hong Kong's traditional style of buildings are temples. Traditional temples shows the traits of classical 'Lingnan style'. It's characteristics are: the temple has a pale colour, rectangular structures, use of reliefs, among others.
