The feudal society
The feudal lords
They subdued the inhabitants of their territory and turned each one of them into servants; they weren't slaves, but they didn't have anything of their own either.
They were not owners of the land they work for, and the serfs not could they abandon it without the permission of the feudal lord.
They had to cultivate the fields, deliver to the feudal lord the indicated quantities of grains, meat, etc.
Feudal society was hierarchical, and functions explicit for each social class: the monks prayed, the lord's fought and the peasants tilled the land.

Monks and Cathedrals
In these centuries few people knew how to read and write. Product of ignorance, there were many superstitions. In addition, the monasteries became places of study and dissemination of practices of agriculture, horticulture and livestock.
Next to the monastery, beautiful categories of romantic style were built and then, in the late Middle Ages, Benedict began to form these monasteries, that is why the monks were called Benedectine
