Folksonomy
Folksonomy is a feature for social media and web 2.0 platforms. It creates a common vocabulary of related keywords. It allows the user to create a free classification of information which is also known as social tagging. Folksonomy is an advantage because it is flexible, it allows the user to add or remove tags, tags consists of popular and long tail content, which allows the user to browse and discover new content even if it isnt a popular topic.
Rich user experience
Rich user experience is the experience of a user using tradtional web applications which are made with HTML and CSS. Rich user experience basically means that applications are more pervasive, dynamic and interactive. User experience is very important as it fulfills the users needs and provides a postive experience which kepps the user loyal to the brand. This technology is subsitutes old fashioned SWF flash media, it provides webmasters with the ability to insert dynamic videos directly into the HTML code.
User as a contributor
User as a contributor is a feature of web 2.0 that allows users to have the free will to contribute to the site as many web 2.0 web pages are public. An example of a website like this would be Wikipedia as anyone can edit the articles on that web page. This means that the users of web 2.0 websites can review and comment on the orginal information on that site which is added by the owner.
Long tail
Long tail is a feature of web 2.0 that foucuses on less popular content that cant be accessed because of some physical limitation. Long tail can be a great advantage because due to its lack of inventory and costs it allows the owner to offer additional services and products to their users. Long tail is a business strategy that allows companies to realize significat profits by selling low volumes of "hard to find items".
User participation
User participation is one of the most defining features of web 2.0. In tradtional web the contentsof the web pages was only added and updated by the provider only, but in web 2.0 the users of theses web pages can participate in adding content which is called user participation, but can also be known as crowd sourcing. An eample of one of these web pages would be any website that allows the user to comment, participate in a poll or leave a reveiw on a product, such as, Amazon. An advantage of this feature would be that it gives the provider/company a better understanding of the systems.
Basic trust
In tradtional websites the conent within them are protected under the intellectual property rights which means that the contents cant be shared, reused or eddited without permission, but in web 2.0 the contents are made so that they are available to share, reuse and edit, which is a benifit because it means that the content wil be shared with more people, which will create more interent traffic for the provider.
Dispersion
Dispersion is a feature of web 2.0 that delivers the conent using multiple channels that inculde file sharing and permalinks where as in tradtional web the contents are delivered as a direct site to home. An example of dispersion in web 2.0 would be Bit Torrent and Mashup.
Wikipedia is one example of a web 2.0 website, an advantage of Wikipedia is that anyone can edit the articles on there which means that they are all up to date. Another advantage of Wikipedia is that it is free so anyone with an internet connection can access and add information.
YouTube is an example of a web 2.0 website, it is an online video sharing platform. Users use this platform to watch or create their vlogs and blogs. An advantage of YouTube being a web 2.0 website is that all videos can be shared to other platforms and users can comment to leave their views and opinions.
Facebook is another example of a web 2.0 website, it is the most popular social media site that uses web 2.0. Facebook allows user to post images, videos and gives them the ability to contact their friends by messaging and video chat. An advantage of Facebook is that it can give you brand awareness, having a business page on Facebook can help you gain exposure.
Flickr is an example of a web 2.0 website, it is a image and video hosting website which allows the users to share and upload digital media. An advantage of Flickr would be that it has unlimited storage so the users can upload as many images and videos they want to. Another advantage of Flickr is that it is advert free which means users can browse images and videos without getting interrupted by adverts.
Bit Torrent is another example of a web 2.0 website, it is a communication protocol for peer to peer file sharing. An advantage of Bit Torrent is that the more active users there are on the website the faster the speed gets for each user, which means the users don't have to worry about it running slow.
Google maps is an example of a web 2.0 website, it is a web mapping service that allows the user to type in any location that they can view in 360 degrees and can get the directions for that certain location. An advantage of google maps is that it can help people find your business and encourages them to visit your website.
Wiki is a web 2.0 website that allows multiple users edit the resources. Wiki allows a group of users to manage content easily. An advantage of Wiki is that it allows the content to be accessed no matter where the user is located. Another example would be that Wiki lets large documents be shared.
