Skin
It is a physical barrier that prevents pathogens from passing through. Which means it provides a structural barrier to infection.
Clotting
If the skin is broken, blood clotting prevents the entry of further pathogens, as well as preventing blood loss.
Lysozyme
An enzyme that is found in sweat, tears and saliva. It attacks and dissolved the cell walls of many bacteria.
-
Mucous
Many body parts are lined with sticky mucous. Pathogens are trapped by this mucous and prevented from entering the body.
Cilia
The respiratory system is lined up with tiny hairs called cilia. These beat and create a current, which moves mucous back up the RS so that it can be swallowed into the stomach.

Phagocytes
White blood cells that protects the body by ingesting harmful foreign particles, bacteria and dead or dying cells (pathogens).
Specific defence system
an antigen-antibody response, involving specialized white blood cells, called lymphocytes and monocytes [macrophages]. It attacks particular pathogens.
