MEDIEVAL AGES

The feudal society

Middle Ages

Is a historical age that lived from the V century to the XV century.

It's mentioned that it began with the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 and ended with the discovery of America in 1492.

Lords and Serfs

The feudal lords converted the inhabitants of their territory into their serfs. They were not slaves but neither did they possess anything of their own.

They had to cultivate the fields, deliver to the feudal lord the indicated quantities of grains, meat, etc.

The feudal society was hierarchical, with specific functions for each social class: the monks prayed, the lords made war and the peasants tilled the land.

Lord Feudal castles

These feudal lords lives in fortified castles with polices and soldiers who protected them

Generally, castles were built with water moats around them which remained full of water as a defense mechanism.

To access the castle there was an elevated bridge and in case of an attack the serfs and their families would take refuge in the castle.

Monks and Cathedrals

In the monasteries they became places of study and diffusion of practices of agriculture, horticulture, and livestock.

Next to it, beautiful cathedrals were built in the Romantic style and then, in the Gothic style. Benito began to form these monasteries, that is why the monks were called Benedectine

End of Middle Ages

The crisis of the Middle Ages

In the XIV century, the feudal model was exhausted in Europe.

The bilateral wars let to the "Hundred Years War" that actually was 116 years. This war was a series of armed conflicts beween the kings of France and England. This gives way to the Renaissance and the end of the Middle Ages.

In 1953 two important things happened:

  1. The invention of the printing press.
  2. The fall of Constantinople.

In 1492, the fall of Granada conquered by the Catholic Monarchs, and the European "discovery" of America by Cristopher Colombus.
