Techniques of Stop Motion Animation
Clay SMA (Claymation)
Clay animation is also called plasticine animation is one famous form of stop motion animation.
Each piece that is animated, whether it is the background or the characters, is deformable and can be moulded to make changes.
The clay is made out of a malleable substance and to perform the stop motion animation.
You need to click a picture and then mould the clay slightly for the next action for the next picture.

White Board SMA
White board animation is a style wherein the content is being drawn on a whiteboard or a white background
Its a way to communicate more complex information because the graphics drawn make it easier to understand
For capturing whiteboard animation, the animator needs to draw something, click a photo and keep adding on to the frame
White board animation is on a simple white board with markers of different colours to portray the story
This type of animation requires the animator to be good a drawing to show the storyline smoothly. It also requires the pictures to be taken precisely
Paper SMA
Cutout stop motion animation is also known as paper animation (it is for 2D cutouts)
It is performed using flat characters, props and backgrounds cut from materials like card, stiff fabric, paper and photos
For this type of stop motion, the props would be cut out from these materials and then used as puppets to perform the animation

After taking the first picture, you need to add or change the position of the paper cutout. Then take the next shot for the story to flow
Object SMA
J Stuart Blackton invented object stop motion animation in the 1800s
Object stop motion animation is animation that involves movement of any object that is not created or drawn
Examples of objects used as object stop motion animation include books, toys, dolls, fruits etc
These objects are not fully malleable (eg. clay or wax) and are not made to look like a known human or animal character.

To show this animation you need to take a physical object and keep moving/ performing your action with it while taking a course of pictures.
