"60 Minutes" Benghazi Scandal Trap
Your reaction to the ethical issues raised by the information in the article
If this segment was a year in the making like they claimed, why couldn't they wait a week or take a little bit of time to fact check this guys claims? It seems like if they did a little bit of more digging they could of prevented this show from airing
The fact that a professional journalist with a humongous following aired this story is ridiculous. It seems like they should of been suspicious way before the show aired.
Play devils advocate, what opposing view could be expressed
Journalists work on timelines and their success rides on finding interesting stories and letting them out to the public quick. In this case its easy to overlook information that will potentially ruin the story.
Davis had been working protecting American diplomats for a period of time before this. From the outside he looks like a very knowledgeable and trustworthy source.
How could using a balance in research and reporting tactics have made a difference in the outcome of what was reported
Using more than one source like 60 minutes did for the most part could have meant there would be less incorrect information in the story if Davis's role was less prominent
A balance in research could have made it more apparent to producers and Lara Logan that the majority of information they were using for the segment was incorrect

What ethical issues were raised by the article
Lara Logan avoided looking into this "incident report" that was already turned over to congress before the episode aired
An entire news segment surrounded by someone making false claims about a topic very sensitive to the audience
Lara Logan claimed that Davis told the same story to the F.B.I, however that claim was debunked in a matter of days
Personal opinion on the issue
It is unfortunate that this happened being that American lives were lost during this incident. The families of the ones who lost their lives and Americans in general deserve the truth.
The Benghazi story in general is a sad one and could've possibly been prevented. This on its own is very upsetting, and the fact that journalists were willing to post false stories without proper fact checking is a slap in the face of Americans.
