Pattern of migration
culture has been enriched by the fact that it has attracted people from all across Argentina.
Arrivals include the spansih sixteeneth century migrants from across europe in the nineteenth century
More recently there has been an influx of migrants from other countries within the south america and as far away and china and Taiwan
Italians formed a significant number of immigrants to Rosario over the last century which has influenced the citys culture particularly the food and architecture
Way of life
The city has been described the socialist hub of the country. It has close links with the trade unions due to it's heritage.
Residents and visitors have good opportunities for shopping in El Centro, the central mall.
Challenges
Housing availability
there are many slums which house 100,000 people and occupy 10 per cent of the space in the city
Transport provision
The Port of Rosario often becomes clogged up with silt and needs to be dredged in order to allow ships to reach the city
Waste management
due to ta growing population, waste management has become a pressing issue, with health and safety and environmental impacts
Sustainable strategies
In Rosario, food makes up 15-30 per cent of the waste in landfills. In order to reduce waster there have been:
partnerships with the food industry to increase awareness of the problem of food waste and ecourage responsible consumerism.
working with food banks to encourage food donation
encouraging separation of food waste, so that it can be treated and turned into compost
