Blood Structure and Function - Coggle Diagram
Blood Structure and Function
Plasma
Structure: mostly water and dissolved substances such as salt
Function: transport of soluble substances around the body
Red Blood Cell
Structure:
they contain haemoglobin - a red protein that combines with oxygen
they have no nucleus so they can contain more haemoglobin
they have a biconcave shape to maximize their surface area for oxygen absorption
Function: red blood cells transport oxygen for aerobic respiration
White Blood Cell
Phagocytes
Structure: large cells with an irregularly shaped nucleus
Function: To get rid of pathogens/foreign cells by a process called phagocytosis.(ingestion and digestion)
Lymphocytes
Structure: large cells with a large round nucleus.
Function: produce antibodies as part of the specific immune system
Platelets
Function: to aid with the clotting of blood
Structure: fragment of cells
