CENTRAL AMERICA
Guatemala with its provinces (Chiapas, Soconusco, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Los Elevados and Costa Rica) declared his freedom of the Crown of Spain (15-09-1821) and, a year later, Guatemala and its provinces formed a state without dependency, of a federal nature, with the name of Provinces Provinces of Central America, its capital being the metropolis of Guatemala. However, the local oligarchies promoted the division. This led to a civil war (1838- 1840), in which Guatemala has not been able to prevail. Panama belonged to the Viceroyalty of New Granada and, consequently, it became independent along with Colombia. From this it separated in 1904 by direct action by the United States, for the control of the Panama Canal promoted the formation of a separate republic.
