Lighting, props and settings
Scene 1
-
Setting
Brad standing on a building. Angel and Devil above and in between him, arguing about the situation and pressure cooking him. Boxes that are safely and carefully stacked will be used and it should be around 140cm or just 5-10cm higher than the actor acting as Brad. A chair will be needed in order for him to stand on the roof. This scene will be moved away to the side and will be put again in Scene 6.
Props
No props really, but a trident for the Devil will be handy and great!
Scene 2
Props
In this scene, we can have the Year 9s have MacBook Pro (I think we can do this by using some of our students in Secondary) and Brad having a MacBook (or just any Mac that is not as extreme and beautiful as the Pro.).
Setting
6 students and a teacher sitting in a classroom, with Brad, Betty and Kenny at the front and John, Samuel and Jeff at the back. Ms Smith will be looking at them.
For the equipment needed, just some chairs and tables we can borrow from a classroom and a more comfortable table for the teacher of course!
Lighting
Bright light at the front for Year 7s to show happiness, perhaps rainbow light will be good, but dim the lights at the back as they aren't the main characters. However, when Ms Smith asks John something, lights should be focused on him.
Scene 3
Lighting
I think in this scene, the green lights can create the setting of out sky pitch and the blue lights can symbolise the good weather of the day. When John starts saying the horrible things, lights should gradually turn dim. However, lights should be focused on Brad all the time since he is the main victim here.
-
Setting
Brad, Betty and Kenny sit together in the sky pitch. John comes to them and starts verbal bullying Brad. Fake grass will be fine for this scene.
Scene 4
Setting
There are 5 scenes here
-
Naming scene: Brad tries to rekindle his relationship with John, however John declines and not only verbal bullies him, but also physically bullies him.
-
'Babysitter' scene: Kenny and Betty went back home, Brad still waiting for his maid. John comes down the stairs and verbal bullies again.
Doctor scene: Brad needs to receive medical treatment. He starts to harm himself and could've killed himself.
Props
In the doctor scene, we need the usual tools and props a real doctor is supposed to have. Brad in this part should have a bandage and some scars (fake) on his face. Otherwise it is mostly props-free and things will be mimed out.
Lighting
The lights should slowly dim as the months progresses since things are getting worse. Until the doctor scene, lights should be bright to symbolise hope.
Scene 5
Lighting
In this scene, the lights should stay white, but not very bright. White symbolises innocence and the people presenting are innocent as well. An alternative is to show blue light to symbolise sadness when something sad and upsetting is being said. This could be when someone tells a story.
Setting
A row of people stand in the middle of the stage, holding cue cards and reading stories. This is a scene that includes reportage drama. There will be questions for the audience and they get to be involved in the next scene if they get it right.
Props
Cue cards, some paper for the person telling the story to exaggerate his feelings and throw them away. The paper can be some really bad words and the person can rip it, scrunch it up and throw it away. This can make the audience understand that using these language towards people can cause serious feelings mentally.
Scene 6
Props
Betty can hold a fake phone with a picture of his parents inside to make Brad reflect on his decisions. We can give some funny props or face masks for the audience to encourage Brad as well.
Setting
It is a cyclical scene back to scene 1. Now the audience knows what is happening and the things in Scene 1 will be back. There won't be much change for settings as this is like a continuation of Scene 1.
Lighting
The lights should be focused on Brad mostly for pretty much the whole time since he is the person going to be impacted by those comments and he needs to be spotlighted for the people to be focused in Brad.
Scene 7
Lighting
This should be green lighted when Brad goes to the tutor room because he is in Caernarfon, but when he speaks the light should be blue and white to represent our school''s colour.
-
Props
A mic that works in a normal stage in our Primary performances or ones that Mr Cooklin used at the end of the year.
