The "simple present" is used:
To express habits and routines, general facts, repeated actions or permanent situations, emotions and desires:
I smoke (habit); I work in London (permanence); London is a large city (general fact)
Para dar instrucciones o indicaciones:
You walk for two hundred meters, then you turn left.
Para hablar de eventos programados, presentes o futuros:
Your exam starts at 09.00.
Para referirse al futuro, detrás de algunas conjunciones: after, when, before, as soon as, until:
He'll give it to you when you come next Saturday.
Habits and routines
He drinks tea at breakfast.
She only eats fish.
They watch television regularly.
Repeated events and actions
We catch the bus every morning.
It rains every afternoon in the hot season.
They drive to Monaco every summer.
General facts
Water freezes at zero degrees.
The Earth revolves around the Sun.
Her mother is Peruvian.
Scheduled events
His mother arrives tomorrow.
Our holiday starts on the 26th March
Future constructions
She'll see you before she leaves.
We'll give it to her when she arrives.
The construction of the present simple (Present Simple) in English is really easy, it has the structure:
[SUBJECT] + [VERB] (in infinitive without to)
Si el sujeto es 3ª persona del singular se le añade una "-s" al verbo.
Veamos como ejemplo la conjugación del verbo "to live" (vivir) en presente simple
Para los verbos acabados en "-o","-sh", "-ch" , "-ss", "-x" , "-z", "-y" se añade "-es" en lugar de "-s para la 3ª persona del singular".
Adicionalmente, los verbos acabados en "-y" cuando la "y" no es precedida de una vocal, forman la tercera persona en "-ies".
Pero cuidado si la "-y" es precedida por una vocal, la tercera persona se forma con una "-s" (desinencia estándar)
