Inflammation 2
Systemic Clinical sign
Fever: A body temperature higher than usual level of 98.6 F and is associated with a systemic response.
Leukocytosis: An increase in the number of white blood cells, or leukocytes, circulating in blood.
-
Elevated levels of C-Reactive Protein: C- reactive protein is a nonspecific protein produced in the liver; it plays an important role in interacting with the complement system, as well as in the clotting mechanism.
Cells Involved
Monocytes: the second WBC to arrive after injury; become macrophages; involved in chronic and granulomatous inflammation

Biochemical Mediators
Kinin System:
Biochemically mediates inflammation by causing increased dilation and increased permeability of the blood vessels at the injury site. Components in the Kinin system also induce pain.
