This rite of passage, found in Myanmar, involves the ritual ordination of boys under 20, into the buddhist monastic order. the concept of transitioning from boy to man in Buddhist majority countries, is marked with boys becoming monks for a certain period of time, at least 2 weeks. This was traditionally viewed to be the case, because it would teach the boys buddhist scripture, discipline and fasting. this would be thought to build a good sense of character.
