The Research Process
:pencil2:
Forming ideas & concepts
Concept - Ideas/mental constructs we use to refer to real world phenomena
Leads to...
Conceptualization - An abstract idea, described how you perceive and think
Which ends us at...
Operationalization - Turning concepts into literal, measurable observations
Variable - An empirical measurement of a characteristic that describes or belongs to a specific unit ( the unit of analysis)
What is the unit of analysis?
Unit of Analysis - The object/entity of what is being studied
Numeric Variables - Numeric and can be ranked/ordered
Categorical Variables - placed into a group due to a distinct characteristic
Data Collection
What is data?
Data - Collection of facts, measurements, or observations used to make descriptions or inferences about the world
Forms of data analysis
Quantitative - measures of values or counts and are expressed as numbers
Qualitative - Measured by categories, types, or symbol
Measurement - Assigning qualities or quantities to units of analysis
Variables are measured at different levels
Interval - Data can be categorized, ranked, and equally distant
Ratio - Includes all 3 above, and has natural zero point
Ordinal - Data can be categorized and ranked
Nominal - Data is strictly categorized
Quality
Precision :checkered_flag: - High reliability and validity
Reliability - Making sure you always get same results
Validity - Making sure what you're measuring is what you want to be studying
Research Design - How the research is structured & strategized, the basis for research and data collection
a study in which a treatment, procedure, or program is intentionally introduced and a result or outcome is observed
Descriptive - A descriptive study is one in which information is collected without changing the environment
