- - - - In favour: Foreign aid helps to break poverty cycles, provides basic services, improves income distribution (by focusing on most disadvantaged groups in society), leads to economic growth, helps achieve SDGs, helps escape from debt traps.
      - Against: Tied aid can result in higher import costs from being force to import from donor countries, conditional aid forces policy changes that may not align with the govts. development strategy, aid is volatile and unpredictable , uncoordinated donors results in inefficiencies, govts. may use funds to replace domestic revenues instead of supplement, aid may not reach those in need, funds are often misused due to corruption, and countries often fail to meet their aid commitments.
    - - In favour: Strong anti-poverty orientation, work closely with project beneficiaries, contributes to democratization, advocacy and public awareness, can offer expertise and advice, can be creative/innovative in finding solutions (no conditions of aid), trusted by beneficiaries.
      - Against: Often small and lack effectiveness, loss of independence due to dependence on govt. funds/other donors funds, may attract skilled experts away from the govt., challenge to state authority.
