Gabriel Garcia-Marquez
Bio (personal)
Marquez was born on March 6, 1927 in Aracataca, Colombia. He grew up with a good education, but his best literary sources were the ones that came from the stories his grandfather had come from. In both his novels and short stories, Gabriel was successful at "being accessible to the common reader while satisfying the most demanding of sophisticated critics" (Britannica). Marquez was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer in 1999, which inspired him to write another great work called Living to Tell the Tale.
