DIRECT SPEECH AND INDIECT SPEECH
Direct speech is used when you repeat what a person said using the exact word
He says: I want to meet your parents
He says he wants to meet my parents
Indirect speech is used when you repeat what a person said without repeating the exact words
How to use say and tell
Say to somebody -> I said to him where I live
Tell somebody -> I told him where I live
Say something -> I said my address
REPORTED SPEECH: AFFIRMATIVE AND NEGATIVE SENTENCES
HOW TO REPORT WITH PRESENT REPORTING VERBS
He says (to them) (that) … He tells (them) (that) …
HOW TO REPORT WITH PAST REPORTING VERBS
He said (to them) (that) … He told (them) (that) …
OTHER CHANGES
Reporting verb past -> Tense of the verbs, expressions, pronouns and articles change
Reporting verb present -> Only pronouns, adjectives and articles change
REPORTED SPEECH: QUESTIONS
HOW TO REPORT YES/NO QUESTIONS
He asks (me/ him/ them, etc.) + IF/WHETHER + sentence in affirmative
HOW TO REPORT WH-QUESTIONS THAT START WIH A QUESTION WORD LIKE WHAT, WHO, HOW, WHEN, WHERE, WHICH, WHY, HOW MANY, HOW, MUCH
He asks (me/ him/ them, etc.) + QUESTION WORD + sentence in affirmative

EXPRESSING A SUGGESTION IN DIRECT SPEECH
Ex: He suggests / recommends: Shall we go to the doctor?
EXPRESSING A SUGGESTION IN INDIRECT SPEECH
