The Police
Responsible for enforcing criminal law

The National Probation Service-
supervises offenders who are serving their sentences in the community, including prisoners who have been released on licence to serve part of their sentence outside prison
Relationships between other agencies
The Police
Voluntary organisation - for example victim and witnesses will be referred to Victim Support by them.
The courts as they give evidence as a prosecution witness, provide protection for vulnerable witnesses, hold defendants in police cells and transport them to and from court.
HM Prison and Probation service as they will arrest prisoners who have been recalled to prison for breaching the terms of their license. As a result of Sarah's Law - they also cooperate with the prison and probation service in managing the list of child sex offenders living in the area.
The PS as they provide evidence for the prosecution of offenders, charge offenders in line with CPS instruction.
The Crown Prosecution Service
The police as they advise on all possible lines of enquiry and evidence collection to build the case instructing them on charging suspects.
The courts as they prepare and present the prosecution case against offenders, prepare appeals against unduly lenient sentences.
HM Courts and Tribunals service
Court and judges supervise the efficient running of the court systems, funding and individual courts.
HM Prison Service by holding prisoners attending court, pending their transfers/returns to prison, arranging video recordings and live links for prisoners giving evidence from prison.
National Probation Service
HM Prison Service and the Parole Board by supervising prisoners who are released on licence.
The courts by preparing pre-sentence reports on offenders, supervising offenders who have been given community sentence by the court, supervising drug testing under the court system.
HM Prison Service
The courts by carrying out the custodial sentences that the court has imposed on offenders; supervising defendants who have been remanded into custody by the court; facilitate visits from defence lawyers to their clients in prison.
The National Probation Service as they liaise when the prisoner is to be released from prison on licence.
The police as they facilitate interviews with prisoners involved in ongoing police investigations.
